  • Where is turn2me based? 

    turn2me is based in Ireland and operates on Greenwich Mean Time ( GMT )

  • Who is behind turn2me?

    turn2me was founded in 2009 stemming from the very personal experiences of brothers Oisin and Diarmuid Scollard, who lost their brother to suicide in 2003.

  • Does turn2me have any political or religious affiliations? 

    turn2me is 100% inclusive of everyone. We are not associated with any political or religious groups.

  • Is turn2me a charity?

    Yes, turn2me is a registered charity in Ireland. Our charity number is CHY18803

  • Am I eligible to use turn2me? 

    You do not need to fit any specific criteria to get support from turn2me. There is no problem too big or too small to get support, turn2me is here for whatever you are going through! Unfortunately, turn2me is unable to provide it’s counselling services to people currently in Europe, Canada and the USA.

  • Do I need a referral to access turn2me services?

    There is no referral needed, you can log in at any time and start using turn2me servicesOur peer to peer service is for anyone aged 12 years and over. Our support groups are split between 12 to 17-year-old users and adults. One to one counselling services are only available to adults at this time (September 2021).

  • Is turn2me confidential? 

    Any information you share with turn2me will be kept 100% confidential unless we feel you are in immediate danger of hurting yourself or someone else. If this is the case your counsellor or one of our moderators will reach out to you and connect you with support.

  • Is turn2me anonymous? 

    turn2me peer and group support services are anonymous and only identifiable by user names. Counselling services are between you and your counsellor.

  • Does turn2me share my data or information with anyone?

    turn2me will only use your personal information to contact you if we are concerned about your well being. turn2me uses anonymised data (not traceable to any one person) for our own research and evaluation. We do not share data with any third parties. Please read our privacy policy for more.

  • Is turn2me free in Ireland? 

    If you are accessing turn2me from within Ireland, all services are free. turn2me relies heavily on donations and asks that if you consider donating so they can continue to keep services free for those who really need it.

  • Is turn2me free outside of Ireland? 

    If you are accessing turn2me from outside of the Republic of Ireland we ask for a small donation towards services to help cover some of the costs.

  • What qualifications does my counsellor have?

    Turn2Me counsellors have at least a 4-year degree in counselling or psychotherapy. Turn2Me counsellors who work with young people and couples have an additional qualification in the relevant field. Turn2Me also provides clinical placements for trainees on counselling and psychotherapy degree and master’s level courses accredited with the IACP. All trainees are supervised by Turn2Me and their training institutions and adhere to the code of ethics and best practice for working therapeutically online.

  • Is my counsellor accredited?

    Turn2Me counsellors are all registered as accredited, pre-accredited or student members with either The Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP), The Irish Association of Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy (IAHIP) or The Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI). To become accredited with either body a counsellor or psychotherapist must have an undergone training in either counselling and/or psychotherapy and have completed 450-500 hours of counselling or psychotherapy. Pre-accredited and Clinical Placement members are working towards full accreditation whilst engaging in regular supervision.

    Clients can always ask their counsellors if they’re accredited, pre-accredited or clinical placements with IACP. For clarity and transparency, Turn2Me asks its counsellors and psychotherapists to put (A), (PA) or (CP) next to their names so that it’s clear that they are accredited, pre-accredited or clinical placements respectively. When booking counselling sessions, clients can see these letters after the counsellors and psychotherapists’ names, so that they know if they’re booking a session with someone who is accredited, pre-accredited or a clinical placement. 

  • How is turn2me funded? 

    Turn2Me is a registered Irish Charity (CHY18803) that relies heavily on donations and fundraising. Turn2Me is partially supported by the Health Service Executive (HSE) National Office for Sucide Prevention (NOSP). Turn2Me has been supported by many grants and organisations over the years.
